Buddhism Deities are briefly featured in Pom Poko.
About[]
When Inugami Gyōbu passed away presumably due to a heart attack amidst the Monster Festival, the deities suddenly appeared from the sky and took Gyōbu's soul with them to the afterlife. The deities were witnessed by tanukis there, implying that the deities are real entities.
Trivia[]
- The death scene of Inugami Gyōbu was inspired by Raigō which Isao Takahata also used for the climax of The Tale of the Princess Kaguya when Celestial Beings appeared to take Kaguya.
- Celestial Beings in The Tale of the Princess Kaguya were designed after Buddhism Deities because the Moon is implied to be an afterlife according to Isao Takahata.[1]
