This page is the transcript for Earwig and the Witch.

Intro[]

(A baby Earwig is shown holding a VHS tape titled "EARWIG", while her mother sings "Don't Disturb Me". The mother is riding the bike on a highway. The mother then looks at her mirror, and sees a car driving after her. She chuckles, and goes faster, leading into a chase. The other driver's car's grinding, coming slightly closer. The mother pulls out a strand of hair from her, and puts it in her mouth, turning it into magic worms. The mother lets go of the worms, and they cover the other driver's windshield. Cut to black, and then to birds chirping, and the mother's bike clicking quietly. The mother walks past the cemetery, and to the front of the orphanage. The mother looks at the sign in front, saying "St Morwald's Home for Children". Earwig coos softly. Earwig's mother pulls off the blanket slightly to see Earwig.)

Earwig's mother: Did you enjoy our fun outing? (Earwig coos) (Earwig's mother walks to the front of the orphanage) Good, because we're here now. You'll like it here now. Every room is spick-and-span with tons of sunshine from all the huge windows. (As she subtly puts a note in Earwig's blanket) And their Shepard's pie is really good. (Pause) Listen. You have to stay here for now. You mustn't go anywhere else. And the rest is up to you, okay? Earwig.

(Earwig cries outside, and knocking is heard outside too. Matron and Thelma go out of their rooms.)

Matron: (scoffs) at this time of the morning?

(The two women see Earwig crying on the floor.)

Matron: (gasps) my word! (Picking up Earwig) Goodness! Oh. You're all right, little one. There, there, don't cry. Hmm?

Thelma: It looks like this is a note from whoever left their baby. (Reading) "Got the other 12 witches all chasing me. I'll be back for her when I've shook them off. It may take years. Her name is Earwig."

Matron: "Earwig?"

Thelma: If it's true that this child's mother has associated with 12 witches, then it follows she must also be a witch. I wonder what she might have done to anger all the other witches in her coven.

Matron: Witches, is it? Bunch of rubbish!

Thelma: Perhaps this means that little child is a witch as well.

Matron: (looking at Earwig) What? (Earwig laughs as she plays with Matron's cheek.) Nonsense! There are simply no such thing as witches. (Cutely to Earwig) Right? (Walking past Thelma) This is your home now. She called you Earwig? The bug that burrows in your ear? Let me see now. A name like Earwig will not do.
