Ghibli Was Born This Way: A Birth Story Spelled Out With Reproduced Images (ジブリはこうして生まれた。 ～再現映像で綴る誕生物語～ , Jiburi wa Kōshite Umareta. ~ Saigen Eizō de Tsudzuru Tanjō Monogatari ~) is a documentary that aired on Nippon Television in July 1998.
The film features longtime executive Shinsuke Nonaka recounting the history of Studio Ghibli and its films from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind in 1984 to Princess Mononoke in 1997. Several moments in the film feature actors recreating the experiences of Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, Toshio Suzuki and Hideaki Anno.
It was dubbed and released as an extra on the DVD home release of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind by Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

The film is narrated by long-time Ghibli executive Shinsuke Nonaka, who recounts the history of Studio Ghibli and its films from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind in 1984 to Princess Mononoke in 1997. The documentary features particular moments recreated with actors in order to show what the true experiences of those moments were like for the various members at the studio, including Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki. Of particular interest is how Toshio Suzuki, a reporter for Animage magazine, met Isao Takahata as he was covering the release of Horus: Prince of the Sun, a film that has had multiple names such as The Little Norse Prince Valiant and Hols: Prince of the Sun (1968). Takahata was busy at the time, so he referred him to Hayao Miyazaki, and the two hit it of.
Their meeting would eventually lead to the formation of Studio Ghibli, and the creation of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind from comic to full-length animated film. There they would meet animator and director Hideaki Anno, who would be one of Miyazaki's lifelong friends. The film then moves through various other Ghibli releases, culminating in the release of Princess Mononoke, which had earned billions in the Japanese box office.
