Hitomi Tateno (舘野 仁美 , Tateno Hitomi, born December 13, 1960, at Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese animator and restaurant manager.
She worked at Studio Ghibli for 27-years on films such as Princess Mononoke], Grave of the Fireflies, Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service, before retiring and starting her own café, "Sasayuri Cafe". She is also the president of Sasayuri Co., Ltd. She was also the animation supervisor for the NHK asadora (morning drama) Natsuzora.
She published her memoirs, The Pencil War Chronicles: The Studio Ghibli that Nobody Knew on November 21, 2015.[1]
History[]
Born on December 13, 1960, in Minamisōma City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.[2] Tateno graduated from Tokyo Designer Gakuin College and worked freelance before joining Telecom Animation Film in 1983. She moved to Studio Ghibli in 1987, and has since worked as an animation supervisor/check for several decades. In 2014, she retired from Studio Ghibli after its production department was dissolved.[3]
In December 2014, she opened the restaurant "Sasayuri Cafe" (ササユリカフェ).[4] The store is located on the 4th floor of the Komino Headquarters Building, a 3-minute walk north-northwest from the north exit of Nishi-Ogikubo Station on the JR Chuo Main Line. In January 2017, she established Sasayuri Co., Ltd. (スタジオササユリ) and became president, and in May 2018, she launched the animation production department "Studio Sasayuri" alongside her cafe division "Sasayuri Cafe".
From April 2019, he was in charge of animation supervision for the NHK serial TV novel Natsuzora, and was in charge of animation production with Toei Animation for "Sasayuri".
As of December 2020, "Sasayuri Cafe" was on "indefinite leave".
