Noddle-Pete (スカッレ・ペール, Sukarre pēru) is a character from Ronja, the Robber's Daughter. He is an old man who stays at the fort. A robber in days gone by, he helps to raise Ronja — teaching, guiding, and keeping her occupied. As an elder to even the chief, Mattis, he freely comments on and scrutinizes the clan's schemes and follies.

Appearance[]

Noddle-Pete has peachy skin and brown eyes. He is bald on the top with scraggly hair, white with age, fanning out from either side of his head, with likewise white eyebrows, and goatee.

Biography[]

Noddle-Pete when he was young

Noddle-Pete when he was young

Noddle-Pete stays in the fort that the otherwise able-bodied robbers venture from, and can distantly recount his own days as robber, before he became too old for it. It is unclear if or how he is related to chief Mattis. He is not his father, as deducible from one episode.[1] He could be his grandfather. He holds a privileged position in the clan's leadership structure, acting as a kind of consigliere.

Personality[]

Noddle-Pete is bright, teasing, and slightly misbehaved. He sometimes cracks banter at the expense of Mattis, usually to sarcastically comment on his less thought-out plans. In spite of this, Mattis loves him a great deal; after all, Noddle-Pete knew him since he was a baby, having attended his birth.

He knows a lot about the forest and its creatures, he will for example tell Ronja about Mirktrolls that come out in the spring moonlight and imitate their dance.

Notes[]

  1. A flashback sequence in episode 6 shows Mattis' father, who is not Noddle-Pete.
