Ronja is the protagonist from the 2014 television series Ronja, the Robber's Daughter, co-produced by Studio Ghibli.

Appearance[]

Ronja is slender 10-year-old girl. She wears a salmon tunic and yellow tights. She has dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Personality[]

Everyone in Mattis' fort is fond of Ronja, and respects and cherishes her. As an only child, she is spoiled with love. It powerfully nourishes her growth into an empathetic, intelligent, and lively girl. She's often happy, sweet, and giggly. She naturally takes on some character traits from her parents even if polarizing, such as Lovis' cool rationality in problem solving, but Mattis' big emotions in interpersonal matters.

She develops a lot of courage and fearlessness; the simple principle she obeys to "never be scared in Mattis' forest" extends itself from reckoning with supernatural creatures, to being able to overcome Hell's Gap. She also discovers a pacifist ethic within herself that drives major aspects of the story.

In her energetic and childish way, every spring Ronja loves to do her "spring yell". She stands in the open forest and joyfully screams at the top of her voice to let the drudgery of the past winter out of her system.

Relationships[]

Love for her father[]

Ronja always tries to be brave, with Mattis as a role model. Since she enjoys a lot of freedom, she grows up to be self-confident and independent at her young age. Just like Noddle-Pete and Lovis, she expresses her opinions openly, even towards her father.

Her father always avoided questions about what being robber precisely was, because he doesn't want Ronja to be disappointed in him. She finds out eventually, having wondered where he and the menfolk got their valuables from; "taking from others without asking".

Mattis hopes that Ronja would one day become a robber herself, but but she disappoints him in refusing because she doesn't want to harm anyone.

Friendship with Birk[]

Birk is first person Ronja meets of her own age. At first, she is determined to dislike him, holding prejudice against Borka robbers. She is quickly frustrated by his charisma however, the boy being rather indifferent to being called a "dirty devil" by her. The two turn soon to more practical matters, such as dealing with dangers in the forest they come to share.
