Ryōko (良子) is a minor character in My Neighbor Totoro. She was with an unnamed lover in his tractor when Satsuki searches for her missing little sister Mei.
Etymology[]
- The name Ryōko is written in katakana (リョウコ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (良子, 涼子, 亮子, 凉子, 了子, 諒子, 遼子, 稜子, 凌子 or 陵子), it could possibly mean:
- 良子 - "good, virtuous, respectable" (良) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 涼子 - "cool, refreshing" (涼) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 亮子 - "clear" (亮) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 凉子 - "nice and cool" (凉) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 了子 - "complete/completion, finish, done" (了) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 諒子 - "reality" (諒) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 遼子 - "distant" (遼) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 稜子 - "ridge, angle, edge, corner, power, majesty" (稜) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 凌子 - "endure, keep (rain)out, stave off, tide over, defy, slight, surpass, eclipe" (凌) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
- 陵子 - "imperial mausoleum, emperor's tomb, mausoleum, imperial tomb" (陵) (ryo) and "child" (子) (ko).
